GN 3664 torque limiting three-lobed knobs are used when the manually applied torque is to be set or limited.
When turned clockwise, the torque mechanism of the three-lobed knob triggers an “over-engagement” as soon as the specified torque is reached. When turned counter-clockwise, the mechanism locks up to disable any torque limiting. This ensures that a maximum permissible torque is not exceeded, e.g. when tightening, while the torque required for loosening is always transmitted reliably.
